September is here! Fall is near, the kids are going back to school and we are all getting back into our routines. September brings a sense of order and regimen, and as much as we all love our regimens, it’s important to enjoy ourselves too! Check out some fun events going on in Portland this month. There’s everything from an Adult Paint Night to learning how to ferment food in your home!

 

  • Adult Paint Night
    • Friday, September 15th 2017
    • 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM
    • Sandy Library Community Room
      • This is a free, two-hour guided painting class using acrylic paints on canvas. The predetermined painting will be taught step-by-step by an instructor in front of the class. The instructor will give individual assistance as needed. No painting experience necessary.

 

  • Saturday Afternoon Kids Club
    • Saturday, September 16th, 2017
    • 2 PM to 4 PM

      • LEGO Club, Appropriate for kids aged 7 – 12.

 

  • Read to the Dog
    • Thursdays, 4 PM to 5 PM
    • Sandy Public Library, 38980 Proctor Blvd. Sandy, OR 97055
      • Kids learning to read can practice their skills every Thursday from 4-5pm in the Children’s area of the Sandy Public Library. Reading to a dog can help struggling kids gain confidence in their reading abilities in a no-stress non-judgmental environment.

  • Fermenting at Home
    • Friday, September 29th
    • 6:30 PM to 8 PM

      • Come join Certified Wholistic Nutritionist, Karen Morgan, and Fermenting and Health Enthusiast, Heidi McKay, as they guide you through the steps on how to make delicious and exciting fermented foods in your own home.
      • Learn:
        • The basics – How to get started
        • Why these foods are so important for your health
        • How to incorporate them into your diet
        • We will focus on fermented vegetables (like kimchi, sauerkraut and pickles), kombucha, and other fizzy drinks.

 

  • Trivia Night 21+
    • Wednesdays, 7 PM
    • Tollgate Inn Restaurant and Saloon, 38100 Highway 26 Sandy, OR 97055
      • Join us every Wednesday night at 7pm for trivia! It’s free to play and prizes will be awarded to the top three teams. Trivia covers a wide range of topics from movies to history to music to pop-culture.
    • Beyond Seed Saving- Stories of Seed Stewardship
      • Sunday, September 17th, 2017
      • 2 PM to 4 PM
      • Sandy Public Library, 38980 Proctor Blvd. Sandy, OR 97055
        • Sarah Kleeger and Andrew Still will share the stories of dedicated seed savers they have met in their travels, and the tactics they use in stewarding their varieties. Part story telling & part skill sharing; audience members can use many of these strategies in their own seed saving adventures.
        • This FREE Sandy Seed Library program was made possible through a grant from the Oregon Food Bank.

          • Mondays 4-5pm at Sandy Public Library.  All skill levels welcome.  You can use one of our laptops or bring your own device (BYOD).  Teens aged 12-17 welcome.
        • Preschool Story and Play Time
